Bulgaria may be small about the size of England but it is picturesque, enjoying both mountainous and coastal beauty. It has been in existence for more than 13 centuries linking east and west. Bulgaria is situated in the South East corner of Europe and occupies the eastern part of the Balkan Peninsula. To the north it borders Romania, to the west Serbia and the Republic of Macedonia. To the east the Black Sea, to the south Greece and to the south east Turkey.
Ancient culture, endless beaches and emerald sea, high mountains with marvellous gorges and caves, clear lakes and rivers full of fish, wide valleys, healing springs, hospitable people, tempting cuisine and wines, diverse flora and fauna, provide for a large variety of activities - swimming, skiing, golf, riding, climbing, hunting, fishing, healing spas, monasteries, churches, hospitable towns and villages to visit.
Bulgaria has breathtaking mountain scenery. Great for hiking and sightseeing in the summer, but which is more famously known for its up and coming first class skiing.
History enthusiasts will be excited by the remnants of numerous occupying empires such as Roman amphitheatres, Thracian tombs and Turkish fortresses, that lie throughout the region. In 2006 a team of archaeologists unearthed an ancient Thracian funeral mask of solid gold that they say is as important a find, as the treasures of Agamemnon and Tutankhamen.
