Morocco Property

Situated at the north western tip of Africa and bordered by Mauritania and Algeria, this country is two rolled into one. It uniquely separates the exotic mystery of Africa from the warm romance of Europe: it is just 14km from Gibraltar and Spain and is cut off from the rest of the African continent by the Atlas Mountains and Sahara Desert.

Its forward thinking leader, King Mohammed VI, who acceeded to the throne in 1999 and whose 'Vision 2010' project aims to increase tourist figures to a sustainable 10 million by the year 2010, has created the right conditions for Morocco property investors, Morocco home buyers and the tourist trade.

Some 6.3 million tourists visited Morocco between January and October 2007, a 14% increase over the same period last year*. With a population the size of just over half of the UK’s at 32m, it represents a sizeable country. Vision 2010 is a powerful tool to kick-start an upgrade of the country's infrastructure, boosting investment, employment (anticipated to create over 600,000 new jobs) and education levels among the population. All of which create wealth and jobs, which in turn helps create demand for property in Morocco.

Sahara desert dunePlan Azur is part of this vision which lays out plans for 6 new Government-sponsored resorts, mainly along the under-developed Northern Atlantic coastline. These include Mediterrania-Saidia – this is the only Plan Azur resort on the Mediterranean coastline. Given the government backing to boost tourist levels this provides the prefect backdrop for the property market in Morocco.

Many foreign property investors who feel priced out of Spain, see Morocco as a good alternative property investment. It has a very similar landscape and climate to southern Spain. Morocco's major cities have experienced capital growth of around 30 per cent** in the last three years and yields are considered very healthy - 8% average***

Marrakech modernMorocco is expected to receive US$3 billion in foreign direct investments in 2007, mostly from the Gulf, according to reports in the leading newspaper Aujourdhui.
