Places of interest
Besides the wonderful beaches and deep blue warm seas, the Strandzha Mountain was declared a natural park in 1995 (the largest one in Bulgaria ) and is one of the least explored, which explains the richness and diversity of its wildlife. The mountain also has numerous caves, traces of ancient civilizations (such as stone figures, sun discs carved in stone, Thracian dolmens, fortress walls, proto-Bulgarian sanctuaries, etc.).

Tsarevo Municipality has obtained funding under the PHARE programme for a project with the working title of ‘A journey into the time of the Thracians’. The project includes the recreation of an authentic Thracian village, without any analogy in the world, the reproduction of a Thracian ship and revival of the ancient Thracian ritual ‘Cult to the gods of the sea’.

It will allow visitors to really experience the rituals and traditions of the Thracians. The idea is that tourists will be active participants in recreating the ancient Thracian way of life and rites, they will be able to stay in the Thracian settlement for 1, 3 or 5 days, as the programme for each option will be different. This project will really take participants back in time and provide first-hand experience of life, scores of centuries ago.
