Turkey as a property hotspot
Turkey is a paradise of sun, sea, mountains and lakes and offers a rich mix of history, strong cultural heritage, a surprisingly relaxed approach to religion, a buoyant economy and a hot temperate climate. All of which make for a very attractive property market
History
Turkey has a magnificent past, full of historic treasures from 13 successive civilizations spanning 10,000 years, from the Hittites to the Hellenistic age of Alexander the Great, to Persians, Greeks, Romans and Ottomans. No matter what length of time you spend there, you can see some small part of Turkey's great heritage. The Republic of Turkey, as we know it today, was founded in 1923 by Mustafa Kemal (AtatÜrk)
Culture
With important historical sites of: Ephesus, Didyma, Priene and Miletos, Apollo, as well as the history of Istanbul, straddling the Bosphorous and its geographical importance, Turkey is firmly on the map for its rich culture
Religion
The Republic of Turkey is a secular State, in that religion and politics are independent of each other. Whilst the majority of the population are Muslim, there is a liberal interpretation of Islam and it is one of the most tolerant nations in this respect.
Climate
A country for people of all ages, you can experience each of the four seasons on the same day in some parts of Turkey. During the Spring months you can bask in the glorious sunshine, while playing golf, swim in the Mediterranean Sea, all after skiing in the morning on the lofty Taurus Mountain tops that line this lovely coast.
Turkey is a vast country (the most easterly point of Turkey is nearly the same distance from Istanbul as London is), about three and a half times larger than the whole of the United Kingdom. It is mainly covered by forests, lakes, agricultural land and grasslands. Turkey is surrounded by sea on three sides; the Black Sea to the north, the Mediterranean Sea to the south and the Aegean Sea to the west, and the coastline measures a staggering 5,000 miles.
The majority of Turkey's sea side resorts, national parks and historical sites are located on the west coast of Turkey making it a popular destination for the young and old, sight-seers, nature lovers and sun -seekers.
Istanbul is a 21st Century City and Newsweek claimed it to be "one of the coolest cities in the world." It is a stunning and varied city and most definitely worth a visit.
Economy
Turkey has very liberal investment opportunities including: free international movement of capital, profits, dividends and salaries, free trade zones and subsides.
Turkey has been given EU candidate membership since 1999 and talks are ongoing to negotiate full membership in the near future. However Turkey has recently grown in stature through the economic crisis, growing its economy at a time when other countries have experienced negative growth.
Turkey Property Investment and Holiday Homes
Bring all these above factors together you have the perfect recipe for a thriving foreign property market. 26.4 m foreigners visited Turkey in 2008. As of 2008, 73,103 foreigners bought property here.
Why? Well apart from all of the fabulous features of Turkey mentioned, there is a huge and varied property market from: the established towns like Bodrum, to real-value-for-money locations such as Kusadasi, to the burgeoning city of Istanbul for investors.
